You are looking at an interesting American Flyer COMPLETE set from 1954, one of the earlier knuckle coupler sets produced. It is a neat set featuring super clean diesel ABAs and SEVEN freight cars. This set was known as The Chief Diesel Freight Train. With SEVEN freight cars, this set was one of the PREMIER sets in 1954!
This is A LOT of vintage train for the money, and an item you will be proud of. Or perhaps you have an American Flyer collector on your gift list. This will be just like revisiting 1954!
Please take the time to read the whole description below before bidding. We took time in writing it for you.
Here is a detailed breakdown of each item for your consideration:
    SET BOX #K5374W
Features a shipping label from L&C Mayers CO, New York, to Ingersoll Rand Company in New Jersey. The box is all here. It does show the usual wear these boxes show. One flap has wear and some light separation along one edge. The set label is all here but does have a horizontal paper rub. The set number stamp is still visible. Shows shelf and shipping wear in the form of creases and softness. It is a little dry. But it is all here.
THE 4713 Santa Fe ABA Alco PA set
THE 4713 470/471/473 Santa Fe Diesel PA Locomotives
Catalogued as 4713. A units feature the CHIEF nose decals. Each of these units has a repro wrapper.
THE 470 Santa Fe Diesel PA Locomotive
This diesel is complete and nice as you can see. It is currently not running. It gets power and hums loudly. The e-unit does click at times. Occasionally, it will get in gear and go. One pick up spring works well; the other is inconsistent. (When we first tested it, it ran but inconsistently.)
Cosmetically C7+ to C8. Everything looks fantastic. The unit has STRONG printing, great patina. Crisp printing. All ladders are present. Beautiful silver paint. There are a few pin-sized marks in the silver paint here and there, minor and hard to find. There are a few paint rubs in the red, and a few light scratches on the roof, pictured. Side decals are as nice as the printing. The nose decal looks great. One of the side Chief decals has a small edge nip on the top. Some paint rubs on the edges of the back side. Not sure you can find these ABA any cleaner.
THE 471 Santa Fe Diesel PB Locomotive
Crisp letters, all ladders. good decals, super clean. Sharp silver. Super decals. One thin vertical scratch towards the rear, but it not that easy to see. It IS pictured close up here.
THE 473 Santa Fe Diesel PA Locomotive, Non-Powered Dummy
A few miniscule paint rubs in the red and along some edges. A few minor scratches. One very small edge nip in the nose decsal cigar bank on one side. Sharp decals, crisp printing. All ladders, SUPER clean.  Some paint rubs along the edges of the back side.
All of the cars below come in the original boxes, though the boxes vary a little in condition. All are KNUCKLE COUPLER.
THE 921 CB&Q Chicago Burlington & Quincy Hopper
Painted version. The car is in excellent shape. Tiny paint rub on bottom edge one side, towards the left end. Good printing. All four steps.
The BOX  is interesting--it is a standard white box with basic end stamp. Not sure if box is original or not. I have seen these stamped white boxes used in sets.
THE 922 GAEX Pennsylvania Boxcar, Decal version
The car is in excellent shape. Good printing. The decals have a few minor nips on each side, but are still stronger than most.
The BOX  is rough, missing end flap, and has some clear tape on it.
THE 924 CRP Jersey Central Cement Hopper
Painted version. The car is in excellent shape. Good printing. Does have the brakewheel. Strong decals. A few paint rubs on the edges of the catwalks, but minor. There is a little bit of clear glue residue on the inside lip--the previous owner may have done this to secure the removeable top. The top is not glued--it removes.
The BOX has some of the inner flaps missing. It also has some clear tape and some wear on the endflap.
THE 925 Gulf Single Dome Tank Car
The car is in excellent shape. Good printing and decals. A few minor paint rubs, but overall looks between excellent and like new.
The BOX  looks good but has the usual wear. Side flaps missing inside the end flap.
THE 929 Missouri Pacific Stock Car
The car is in excellent shape. Good printing. One side the number is a hair lighter than the other.
    The BOX  is complete.
THE 947 Northern Pacific Refrigerator Car
The car is in good shape. Good printing. With brakewheel (even though it is not pictured). Strong decals. A few paint rubs on the edges of the catwalks, but minor. Top of one catwalk has some scratches in the ridges.
The BOX  is complete but has weak endflap which is missing the inside side flaps and the tongue. Some clear tape on the box.
    THE 930 Caboose
Is very clean. Good printing. Smokestack still here. All steps. There is some light oxidation on the underside.
The BOX is complete showing some light wear.
