The name Khudarayakah is often considered as the title taken by the Islamic ruler of Ohind, Kabul and Gandhara in keeping with the local regal norms. Based on contemporary sources, it is considered that the title Khudarayakah was adopted by Yaqub bin Laith al-Saffari when he was appointed the governor of Khurasan and eastern holdings by the Abbassid caliph. The coin offered here shows what could possibly be a severed head under the horse's front legs. This could possibly signify the defeat and deposition of the Hindu Shahi rulers of Ohind by Yaqub or one of his local governors / military commanders. On the other hand, this could very well be the issue of a pre-Islamic ruler belonging to the Hindu Shahi dynasty who had to fight against contenders to the throne, and the coin was issued to commemorate his victory.
