UK teacher gets three-year sentence in Abu Dhabi for taking bribes

An Abu Dhabi court has sentenced a British teacher to three years in jail after he was found guilty of soliciting bribes from pupils at the school where he worked.
He will be deported at the end of his prison term and was also fined Dh5,000 ($1,360).
This sentence was passed by the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal, state news agency Wam reported on Friday.
These bribes were in exchange for altering exam results and increasing the grades of the pupils, posing “significant harm to the education sector in the UAE”.
The sentencing follows an investigation by prosecutors, who then referred the matter to the specialist criminal court.
The Federal Public Prosecution is currently investigating several cases pertaining to cheating and disrupting the examination system, Wam reported.
